The Oral Cancer Exam

Have you ever wondered why Dr. Amble carefully examines your tongue during every periodic exam?

Oral cancer is most commonly found at the base and back lateral (side) borders of the tongue. He also examines your hard and soft palates (roof of your mouth), inside the cheeks, floor of the mouth and your lips. These are all areas where an early cancerous lesion can be detected and removed early. Your hygienist also does a visual inspection of these same soft tissue areas as two sets of eyes are better than one.

Your periodic dental exam at Grand Avenue Dental is more than checking for cavities. Many health issues reflect themselves in our mouths so make sure yours is getting the attention it deserves.
